About Us

The Palo Alto Recreation Foundation assists the City of Palo Alto Recreation Division in sponsoring and funding programs and special events to promote the social, cultural and recreational needs of Palo Alto residents and visitors to the city. The Foundation enhances youth, senior, family and neighborhood interactions, and promotes health and wellness throughout the Palo Alto community. Through collaborative efforts, the Foundation supports many programs that play an integral part in the well being and success of Palo Alto's residents and youth. The foundation is a 501(c)(3) dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the extraordinary quality of life in Palo Alto.

Since 1987 the bi-annual Palo Alto Black and White Ball has been the premier fund-raising event for the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation and a key source of funding for our public schools. The first Ball, held in 1987, was and continues to be held at the Lucie Stern Community Center. This gala, not-to-be-missed event showcases the wonderful civic spirit of the local community.
