Is the Ball a sit-down dinner? Do I need to buy a table? The Ball is not a sit-down event. There are no tables to buy. The Ball consists of 10 seperate areas of entertainment for guest to explore and enjoy throughout the evening. Read all the details here.
What is the dress code? ​The suggested dress code is Black Tie (tuxedos and ball gowns). Black Tie is optional, though encouraged. We don't want you to stress over what to wear--no one will be turned away based on attire.
Do I have to wear black & white? Though this is a "Black & White" Ball you are not restricted to only wear those colors. In fact, the Ball has an accent color of orange, so we encourage adding a splash of orange to your outfit. 
What alcohol will available at the Ball? The following alcohol will be at the Ball: complimentary champagne for all guests from 7:00-8:00 pm, complimentary JCB wine tastings available in the Fireside Room, complimentary cocktail tastings (while supplies last) in the Community Room. Beer & Wine is only available with the purchase of a "Beer & Wine Bracelet" (available on Eventbrite), and a no-host bar selling liquor and mixed drinks.
Will there be non-alcoholic drinks? Yes, complimentary water and lemonade will be available at multiple locations throughout the event. Complimentary coffee and tea will also be available (while supplies last) in the Secret Garden. A selection of soda & juice will be available for purchase at the no-host bar. 
What food will be available? The Taste-of-Palo Alto debuts at this year's Ball! That means guests will enjoy complimentary bite-size portions of food from 18 local restaurants and chefs (while supplies last). Food will be located in the Grand Ballroom, PARF Plaza, and Secret Garden. Complimentary late night bites will also be available.
Do I need to pay for food? All food, appetizers, and desserts are included in your ticket price. There will be no food for purchase at the event.
Is there an auction at the Ball? There is no auction, silent auction, or raffle at the Ball this year. If you wish to donate additionally to the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation, you may do so here. 
Are there any age restrictions to attend? Yes, guests must be 21 years or older to attend the Ball. I.D. is required to enter the event.
Do I have to live in Palo Alto to attend? No! The Ball is open to everyone. In fact, the Palo Alto Black & White Ball is the only event of its kind throughout Silicon Valley. 
Is there parking available at the event? Due to circumstances out of our control, there is no on-site or street parking available at Lucie Stern Community Center. We do offer VIP Valet parking for purchase in advance on Eventbrite. We strongly suggest guests take Uber/Lyft, or consider biking or walking  to the Ball. 
Will there be a shuttle bus service to off-site parking like you had in the past? No, there will not be shuttle bus service offered at this year's Ball. We do offer VIP Valet parking for purchase in advance on Eventbrite. We strongly suggest guests take Uber/Lyft, or consider biking or walking  to the Ball. 
What is the Ball fundraising for? All proceeds from the Ball directly support the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation (PARF) in funding a wide range of events and programs in and around the city of Palo Alto. The foundation is a 501c3 dedicated to sustaining and enhancing the extraordinary quality of life in Palo Alto. Learn more about PARF here. 
What does the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation (PARF) do?  The Palo Alto Recreation Foundation (PARF) assists the City of Palo Alto Recreation Division by sponsoring and funding programs and special events that promote social, cultural and recreational connections for Palo Alto residents, surrounding neighbors, and visitors. PARF enhances youth, senior, family and neighborhood interactions, and promotes recreation and wellness throughout the Palo Alto community. Learn more about PARF here. 
Who's in charge of planning all the details of the Ball this year? The Ball is 100% volunteer run. This year, the Ball has 4 volunteer co-chairs and hundreds of other volunteers!
How can I sign up to volunteer at the Ball? Why thank you for asking! We are actively looking for volunteers to help with the event. More info here.
Will there be a coat check at the Ball? Yes, a complimentary coat check will be available, located at the front desk of Lucie Stern. 
Are pets allowed at the Ball? We're sorry, but fur-babies must stay at home. Per the City of Palo Alto regulations: no person shall bring any animal into the facilities other than service animals assisting individuals with disabilities or animals under the control of a police officer.
Does the Lucie Stern Community Center allow smoking? Per the City of Palo Alto regulations: no person shall smoke within twenty five feet (25 feet) of any entrance or door of any City community center.
What if it rains the night of the Ball? The Ball will occur rain or shine. The venue will be altered appropriately to account for rain.
Can I buy tickets at the door the night of the Ball? We cannot guarantee tickets will still be available at the door, as we expect the event to be sold out. We strongly encourage purchasing tickets in advance on Eventbrite.
What's the address of the Ball venue? The Ball is held throughout the entire Lucie Stern Community Center property, located at:  1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA 94301
Is the Ball held indoors or outdoors? Both! The event encompasses the entire Lucie Stern Community Center property, including: Grand Entrance, PARF Plaza, Grand Ballroom, Community Room, Fireside Room, Fire Circle, Secret Garden, Magic Castle Stage, Lucie Stern Theater, and The Patio.  
What time does the Ball begin and end? Check-in begins at 6:30 PM. Doors opwn at 7:00 pm. The Ball ends at midnight. (Alcohol stops at 11:30 PM.)
​What happens if I arrive late? Other than missing out on fun?!? Nothing. Staff will be available at the entrance all evening to check guests in.
Who is the surprise guest appearance? Well if we told you it wouldn't be a surprise now would it?!?
Are my tickets refundable? No refunds will be issued on any ticket sales. No exceptions.
Are my tickets transferable? Yes, please visit Eventbrite to transfer the name on your tickets at no additional cost.
What do I get with my purchase of a "Beer & Wine Bracelet"? This bracelet entitles you to unlimited Gordon Biersch draft beer, sparkling wine, Chardonnay & Cabernet at 4 bars throughout the event. No other beer or wine will be sold at the event. There will be a no-host bar selling liquor, which is not included with the purchase of this bracelet. We strongly encourage purchasing "Beer & Wine Bracelets" in advance on Eventbrite. 
Can I buy "Beer & Wine Bracelets" at the door the night of the Ball? Yes, there will be a sales table at the entrance of the Ball, where you can purchase a "Beer & Wine Bracelet" using a credit card (no cash accepted). However, to avoid waiting in line, we strongly encourage purchasing a "Beer & Wine Bracelet" in advance on Eventbrite.
What's included in the price of my General Admission Ticket? Each ticket includes: Live music from 7 musical acts, Welcome Champagne from 7-8:00 pm, The Taste-of-Palo Alto serving bites from 18 local restaurants, complimentary coffee & desserts, complimentary signature cocktails (while supplies last), complimentary JCB Wine Tasting, Open Air Photo Booth & Gift Bags--provided by The Palo Alto Weekly (while supplies last).
Do you offer a discounted ticket price for groups? Yes, the more the merrier! If you purchase 10 or more tickets in the same order, you'll save $25 off each ticket. Please look for the "Discounted Group Tickets 10+" option on Eventbrite. Additionally, all members of the group have access to the Exclusive Group Check-In Table. Please note a "Beer & Wine Bracelet" is not included. Please purchase a "Beer & Wine Bracelet" separately on Eventbrite.
Which bands are playing at the Ball? We are super excited about our musical lineup and we hope you are too: Live music from SuperDiamond, renowned Neil Diamond tribute band, Live music from Mustache Harbor smooth rock cover band, Live music from The CHINA CATS: Tribute to the Grateful Dead, DJ Celeste spinning techo, 70's & 80's & world cultural beats, The Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra string quartet, jazz duo, and a local pianist playing crowd favorites. 
Do I need to bring cash and/or credit cards to the Ball?​ Only credit cards are accepted at the Ball. We cannot accept cash. You will only need a credit card if you wish to purchase tickets at the door, "Beer & Wine Bracelet" at the door, or liquor/cocktails from the no-host bar.
What's the bathroom situation? There are lovely restrooms available inside the main office of the Lucie Stern Community Center for guests to use. Additionally, there will be bathroom trailers located near the Secret Garden.
Is the cost of my ticket tax deductible? Your payment may be tax deductible as a charitable donation to the extent permitted by law, less the fair market value of $85 for each guest attending the event. No written acknowledgement, except for sponsorships, will be provided unless requested in writing.  PARF's tax identification number is 77-0187810.
Is the Lucie Stern Community Center ADA accessible? Yes, however various locations throughout the venue can better accommodate guests with limited mobility. For complete details, please call the front desk at Lucie Stern: (650) 463-4900.
What do I do in case of an emergency during the event? The City of Palo Alto will have staff on duty to assist with emergency and first aide needs during the event. You will be able to identify the staff by their staff vest. If your emergency is life-threatening, please dial 911 from your mobile.
